The province’s COVID-19 immunization program is expanding to include some pharmacy clinics and community healthcare providers, additional cases of both the South African and UK variants have been announced, and a special property tax rebate program was announced for some small businesses.
The province’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout is on track, with four pharmacy prototype clinics launching this month with additional locations planned for April. Those eligible to receive the vaccine through one of these initial clinics will receive an invitation to participate from their pharmacy.
Nova Scotia’s COVID-19 immunization plan is also expanding to include anyone who works in a hospital and may come into contact with patients and community health-care providers who provide direct patient care.
Unrelated to the cases reported today, March 2, two more cases of the UK variant and five more cases of the South African variant have been identified. Of the two cases with the UK variant, one case is resolved, the other case is self-isolating. Of the five cases with the South African variant, one case is now considered resolved, the other four related cases remain in self-isolation.
This brings the total number of cases of the UK variant in Nova Scotia to eight and South African variant to six.
Restaurants, gyms, hair salons, and many small businesses have suffered as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions. The Province has announced a $7 million property tax rebate program to help the service sector weather the impact of the COVID-19 shutdowns.
