Member’s Statement, March 7 2019 Hugh MacKay, MLA Chester – St. Margarets Topic: Canada Games Athletes

Mr. Speaker, our province has reason to be very proud of our young athletes who recently returned from the 2019 Canada Games held in Red Deer, Alberta.

I want to particularly congratulate some of the members of Team Nova Scotia who live in my constituency of Chester-St. Margaret’s.

Bridget MacLean, a Grade 10 student and snowboard racer from Glen Haven, qualified this year in the giant slalom and the boarder cross events. This was Bridget’s first experience as a part of a Canada Games team, and she placed a very respectable 4th place overall in her snowboard event.

Kate MacKinnon from East Chester, named by the provincial Snowboarding Association as the 2016 female “Snowboarder of the Year,” was also a member of Team Nova Scotia. Kate took a 6th place against a tough field in the Female Parallel Giant Slalom event.

Taylour Stevens from Chester was a member of Skip Cally Moore’s curling team which defeated Team New Brunswick to take home bonze for Nova Scotia. Team Moore defeated British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan en route to the bronze.

Mr. Speaker, I ask the members of this Assembly to join me in congratulating these young athletes, and to wish them well in their future endeavours.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
